Taiwan Earthquake: Hundreds Trapped, Nine Dead

Multiple Tremors Rake Island

Rescue Efforts Intensify

At least nine people have died and hundreds are trapped after a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the east coast of Taiwan. The quake, which hit early on Sunday morning, triggered a series of landslides and collapsed buildings.

Emergency services are working to rescue those trapped in the rubble, but their efforts are being hampered by continuing aftershocks and damaged infrastructure. The earthquake has also disrupted power and communications in the affected area.

The government has set up a hotline for people to report damage and request assistance. The hotline number is 886-2-2349-1000.

The earthquake is the latest in a series of powerful tremors that have shaken Taiwan in recent weeks. Seismologists say the quakes are likely related to the collision of the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate.

Taiwan is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for its frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
